The primary responsibility of the City of Findlay Engineering Department is to provide civil engineering services to support existing and future infrastructure under the City’s jurisdiction. Services provided include planning, design, project management, and construction inspection for capital improvements projects throughout the City. Such projects include annual resurfacing programs, sewer lining and repairs, water and sewer installation/replacement, intersection upgrades and signalization, and street reconstruction. The department also administers design contracts for various other work as needed.

In addition to public capital improvement projects, the Engineering Department also reviews plans, administers bonding requirements and inspects private developments. Private development projects requiring bonding and inspection fees are known as TBR Projects (To Be Reimbursed) since time spent by Engineering staff on such projects is charged to the developer.

The Engineering Department also permits and inspects water and sewer taps, street openings, and sidewalk construction, and oversees licensing for sewer tappers and sidewalk contractors. Various Zoning and Flood  permits are also issued through the Engineering Department, though the Zoning Department provides permit approvals and inspection for these items, including fences, building additions, sheds, swimming pools, etc.

In addition, the Engineering Department provides representation to numerous City Committees and Commissions, including the City Planning Commission, the Water & Sewer Committee of City Council, and the Subdivision Review Committee to name a few.

A more detailed report of Engineering Department activities is available in our 2009 Annual Report.
